Castile soap originated in Castilla, a kingdom in Spain. Many soap makers will say that this soap has to contain 100% olive oil, but in fact, the demands for calling an olive oil soap “Castile” today are that it contains more than 50% olive oil. History has shown that Castile soap has been used because of its mildness and positive effects for the skin. Also its values in the medical world were soon appreciated and it was known to the old Apothecaries as “Sapo Hispaniensis” or “Sapon Castilliensis”. It was also used by many royal families throughout Europe. In our humble opinion, a soap made with only olive oil can be low lathering and has a rather slimy feel, therefore we add a little Coconut oil to boost the lather and very small amounts of Sunflower oil (to boost the Linoleic Acid content which gives a very conditioning effect) and also Castor oil, that also helps give the soap a very moisturising quality. . There is over 80% Extra Virgin Olive oil in this unfragranced bar - the mildest and gentlest soap, suitable for all skin types, especially for children and individuals with sensitive or fragile skin.  It makes an excellent solid facial cleanser and shampoo bar. This is one of the 4 soaps in the range that does not contain shea butter.
